Coffee + Conversation Around The Common Table

Join Pastor Josh and other leaders for an informal discussion about our future direction and changes that are taking place at The Common Table. Bring your questions. There will be coffee and donuts!
Special All-Congregation Forum + Potluck
February 9, 2020 following worship in the Fellowship Hall
The leaders of The Common Table are gathering on February 8 to take some time to dream and strategize about the future. The next day, Sunday, February 9, we want to bring everyone from The Common Table into the conversation. Join us for lunch and a time to name our fears and turn to God for encouragement as we continue to tackle the challenge of transformation together. This potluck will replace our typical last Sunday of the month potluck in January. Bring a dish to share if you are able.
A Celebration of Life for
The Lutheran Church of the Messiah
We want to take time to honor, celebrate, and remember the legacy of The Lutheran Church of the Messiah as we prepare to turn the page and officially launch The Common Table in April. Over the next month we will be gathering materials to bury in a time capsule (Karen McIntyre), creating a photo collage (Betty Key), and collecting and recording stories of how God worked among the people and ministry of Messiah over the past 80 years. Grab a Story Sheet by the office door to share your memories or visit our website. Mark your calendars for a special worship gathering, lunch, and celebration for Messiah on February 26, 2020.
We are so excited to have Kyle Bynum join The Common Table family as our Music and Communications Director! Kyle moved to Atlanta from St. Simons Island three years ago and teaches piano, guitar, and voice at Community Music Centers of Atlanta in downtown Decatur. He has been involved in sacred music since he was a teenager, serving in Mainline Protestant congregations. When not making music, he enjoys coffee-shop hopping, finding local concerts, and kayaking. He lives in Decatur with his daughter, Elizabeth, and husband, Aiman.
The Common Table
Imagine a church community that invited all people – regardless of age, race, status, or sexual orientation – to gather together around a common table to learn and share and serve and love one another. Imagine a church that didn’t just do this in worship on a Sunday but throughout the week…journeying together through all of life…the messy and beautiful…the Instagram worthy and the ugly and sad and painful. Imagine a church that freely, extravagantly, and maybe even notoriously invited all people to share the wholeness and joy of Jesus.
The people of The Lutheran Church of Messiah are so committed to that vision of the church that we are leaving our old name and identity behind and transforming into a new community called, “The Common Table.” Pull up a chair and join us!
